Kim Bradney is a dedicated advocate for education and animal welfare. Originally from Wichita, Kansas, she moved to Junction City in 1999 with her young son, Jaden, who benefited from the USD 475 school system.
With a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Secondary Education, her career has been devoted to teaching. She taught English Language Arts (ELA) at St. Xavier's for 2 years before joining Barton Community College at Ft. Riley, where she taught active-duty service members for an impressive 24 years. For the last 3 years, Kim continues to make a difference as an ELA teacher at Junction City Middle School.
Kim's commitment to making a positive impact extends beyond the classroom. She is a passionate advocate for animal welfare and has actively participated in numerous animal transports throughout the state. In 2017, Kim joined forces with like-minded individuals in an effort to repeal Junction City's "pit bull ban" although their initial petition was unsuccessful. Undeterred, Kim and her allies regrouped and redirected their focus towards using political pressure to successfully lift the ban. This experience ignited Kim's love for political activism, further solidifying her determination to fight for the rights of those who cannot speak for themselves.
Kim is a dedicated political leader and activist, currently serving as the Chair of the Geary County Democrats since 2018. In addition to this role, she holds the position of Precinct Committee Woman for Ward 2, Precinct 2. With a strong commitment to promoting Democratic values and representing her community, Kim actively engages in grassroots organizing and political advocacy. Her leadership and involvement in local politics demonstrate her passion for effecting positive change and building a stronger democratic foundation within Geary County.
Carolyn Zumbrunn was born in South Carolina and later relocated to Junction City, Kansas in 1979.
With an Associate’s Degree in business from Greenville Technical College and a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina, she possesses a diverse educational background. Additionally, she holds a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education from Kansas State University.
Carolyn was married to the late Daryl Zumbrunn. Together, they raised three children who have gone on to establish their own successful careers. Carolyn is retired, but her passion for making a positive impact remains unwavering. As a mother of three children and a grandmother to three grandchildren, she understands the importance of creating a caring community for future generations.
Having served as a Democratic precinct person for Ward 3, Precinct 3, for an impressive four terms, and one term as Chair of the Geary County Democrats, she brings extensive experience and knowledge to her role. Her dedication to serving the residents of Geary County is evident in her unwavering efforts to make the area a compassionate and supportive place for all.
George Shuler is a clinical social worker with a Bachelor's Degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master's Degree from The University of Houston. As a former Local President of the Texas State Employees Union (affiliated with Communications Workers of America), he brings extensive experience in advocating for workers' rights. George is also a member of the American Federation of Government Employees and The Texas State Employee Retirees Association of The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees union.
In addition to his professional endeavors, George is actively involved in his community. He serves as a United Methodist Church Lay Servant and is a member of the Freemasons and the Shriners. George's commitment to political engagement dates back to 1968 when he first became involved in Democratic campaigns during Hubert Humphrey's presidential campaign.
George is passionate about various social causes and actively supports organizations such as The Sierra Club, The National Organization for Women, The American Civil Liberties Union, The Trevor Project, The NAACP, and NARAL-Pro-Choice America. He values inclusivity, civil rights, and reproductive freedom.
George is happily married and a proud father of four adult daughters. He cherishes his role as a grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Ruby Powell brings a wealth of experience as a military family member, with a background enriched by years of travel throughout the United Stated and overseas. She is happily married to Charles. Ruby's daughters graduated from Junction City High School, pursued higher education at the University of Kansas, and currently reside in Georgia. Ruby and Charles are embracing the role of doting grandparents to two grandchildren.
Ruby holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services from Upper Iowa University. Her extensive career within the federal government allowed her to make a meaningful impact on the lives of soldiers and their families, with diverse roles spanning medical facilities, human resource offices, and confinement institutions. After dedicating 36 years of service, Ruby transitioned into continued community involvement. She actively contributes to organizations such as Geary County Hospice, serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and volunteering with the United Way and the Geary County Clerk Elections Office. Ruby's engagement extends to the Ft. Riley Chapel Ministries, where she chairs the Parish Council Committee and participates in the Music Ministry, Teaching/Education Ministry, and Volunteer Services.
Currently, Ruby holds the position of Geary County Democratic Committee Chairwoman for Ward 3, Precinct 2. Deeply committed to her community, Ruby strives to promote policy and law awareness, safeguard the rights and privileges of all residents, and foster active engagement in programs for the betterment of Geary County. Her unwavering dedication to creating an improved living environment for residents and visitors alike remains at the forefront of her efforts.
